THE INTERNATIONAL Federation of Robotics (IFR) Executive Board has unanimously elected Åke Lindqvist, of ABB’s North America Robotics Division, as its President.

The retiring President, Stefan Müller says the appointment of Lindqvist reflects the importance of the US market. He hopes countries with growing markets like China, Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia will look to work with the IFR in the future so they are represented globally.

Lindqvist payed tribute to his predecessor’s tireless and successful efforts and announced his intentions to further strengthen the organisation as the most important in the global robotics industry.

He says he will look to recruit new members in the emerging robot markets and improve the services it currently offers its members.

The new President has been with ABB since 1973 and is currently the Vice President of the company’s Robotics Products Global Management Team. He was also the President of the Robotics Industry Association (RIA) in North America. He still serves on its board as well as those of several other associations.

Prior to this appointment, Lindqvist served as Vice President and Chairman of the IFR Robot Suppliers Group.
