Automation research

Automated production research has received a boost as the Federal Government announced it will construct an industrial technology centre at Victoria’s Deakin University.

The Innovative Regions Centre falls under the government’s $251m Enterprise Connect network plan. The centre will allow manufacturers access to the latest automation and process control technology. Similarly, market advice and information on supply chains both around Australia and abroad will also be provided.

According to the government, the centre will provide testing facilities for new automation products and manufacturing processes. It will also support to the manufacturing sector in the Geelong region, after Ford Australia announced they would cut 600 jobs by 2010.

The centre was planned following extensive reviews of the various manufacturing and fabrication sectors.
