THE AUSTRALIAN Manufacturing Technology Institute (AMTIL) says the Innovate 09 showcase, to be held in Melbourne from 12 to 15 May, will highlight the latest technologies for small and medium manufacturers.

The Innovate 09 showcase will be held alongside the Austech and National Manufacturing Week (NMW) exhibitions at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

According to AMTIL, the highlight of the exhibition will be the demonstration of a new combination laser and punch press, which can fold both upwards and downwards.

AMTIL says Innovate 09 will also showcase a ‘lights-out’ automation section, smart materials handling and storage technology and a simulated clean room area for nano- and micro-manufacturing.

The exhibition will feature live demonstrations of most of technology on show. For instance, the ‘lights-out’ automation section will be used to manufacture products and will be completely unmanned.

AMTIL says a robot will load and unload the machine and take items over to the coordinate measuring machine. There will also be a metallurgy process taking place as well as some rudimentary assembly, carried out by the robot.
