Papyrus goes bananas over new manufacturing line

PAPYRUS Australia says work on its unique paper product manufacturing line, which uses banana tree trunks, has not been affected by the North Queensland floods.

The line, being developed by SAGE Automation, will produce decorative veneers, paper and board products from the trunks.

The trunks are an as-of-yet unutilised by product of banana fruit production, one of the region’s strongest industries.

The company says the line is on track for installation during February in its new commercial facility on the flood-free Atherton Tableland in North Queensland. Production trials are scheduled to begin in March.

The manufacturer is hoping to install more of the machines in other locations in Australia and overseas later in the year.
